| In
college, my love of the outdoors, plants, and sculpture trumped
my original desire to pursue interior architecture of buildings.
I found that I wanted to spend more time near rivers whitewater
kayaking and studying the natural landscape, as much as I wanted
to discuss green building in tidy, confined gardens in the city.
It is my mission to design interactive and aesthetic landscapes
where more people have a taste, in their daily lives, of the refreshing
experiences we feel in nature.
My natural talent, education, and passion led me immediately upon
moving to Santa Cruz to work for some of the most successful, high-end,
and award-winning architects, designers, and contractors in the
Bay Area. I have been involved in some way with four award-winning
installations at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show.
In finding my own design ‘voice’ I am continually honed
in to my commitment—more like an instinct—of sensitivity
to the environment in the design choices that I make. This instinct
is the same as what led me to choose the graduate program at the
Conway School of Landscape Design, work extensively with Ken Foster
of Terra
Nova Ecological Landscaping, and study Permaculture (and some teaching).
It is why I attend conferences and join groups such as the Ecological
Landscaping Association.
Whether I have a pencil in my hand, a kayak paddle, or a shovel,
I am in my element. I look forward to working with you, and I am
sure that a landscape design by Ecology Be Design will surpass the
confines of your property lines as well as your expectations. Thank
you for your interest in my company.
